Hanna Andersson Industry Collaboration Project

The first goal of this project was to work with a classmate and a person in the apparel industry and design a 3-look collection for their brand.

The second goal was to produce another team’s design. This included patternmaking, simple construction, fittings, and working closely with the other team to make any changes along the way.

Goal #1

The first step to complete the goals for this project was to meet with our mentor from Hanna Andersson and learn about the brand. After gathering information and conducting research we chose a target market, created a moodboard and started putting together a line concept. We wanted to design fun and playful summer clothing that would give girls the freedom and comfort to embrace the adventure of childhood. This concept supported the brands values while also incorporating new and original ideas.

Target Market

  • Parents, grandparents, and other family members of young girls ages 5-10

  • Looking to buy practical and sustainable clothing that the girls in their lives can play in and will last over time.

Mood Board

The inspiration for this line was bright colors and tropical patterns. The foliage in both pattern repeats are native plants to Hawaii.

Next, we drew digital sketches to help visualize our ideas. The final concept for the 3-look collection included a jumpsuit, a hooded dress that could be worn as a swimsuit cover up or on it’s own, and a matching swim set for girls consisting of a rash guard and board shorts.

Goal #2

To complete the next goal of this project, our job was to produce another groups design. The group we were paired with worked with Levi’s to design their looks, and we chose to make the slip dress they designed. We learned from the fitting that the original prototype (black dress, far right) was too large in the body and in the cups and that the finishing techniques weren’t right. We opted to take in the dress about 3 inches, add lining to the cups, and use thin elastic straps instead. The finished dress also included an invisible zipper in the back.
